Dispute between spouses regarding circumcision

שו”תCategory: generalDispute between spouses regarding circumcision
asked 6 years ago

Shalom Rabbi and happy holidays,
If a case were to arise where there is a dispute between two parents regarding circumcision of a baby. Legally and/or morally, should the party who wants circumcision be allowed to do so? Or should the situation be left to chance and the child be allowed to choose when he grows up?
Best regards,

It depends on what the agreements between the couple were originally (when they got married). If there is no clear agreement and it cannot be inferred from the implication (for example, the prevailing custom in their environment), etc., then it seems to me that morally the baby should be allowed to choose when he grows up.

Moral rather than religious?

And if there is a conflict between religious and moral, will you apply territorial considerations and prefer the moral? (Actually, why not apply these in general towards the baby? For example, in places where the law or society does not look favorably on circumcision)

Religiously certainly not. And does the mother's objection nullify the father's obligation?
I didn't understand the question about territory. What's the connection?
