Dispute between the Ramban and Maimonides

שו”תCategory: faithDispute between the Ramban and Maimonides
asked 5 months ago

Hello Rabbi Michi!
Sorry for the many questions.
Now I have a question.
Maimonides says (in the book of Yeshua) that everything exists by the very existence of the first thing that exists (meaning everything exists by the grace of God, and it is essentially like a serial connection. If one lamp burns out, then the rest stop working).
Our friend the Ramban says this in Parashat Ba: “Everything is from a miracle.”
How are these things different from each other?
I really don’t understand.
Happy Holidays! Until the Haggadah, I will read Alice in Wonderland
Thank you for your time.

I didn’t understand the question. A miracle means existing because of a direct connection to God. Where did you see a disagreement? Regarding “the Ramban, our friend,” see Sanhedrin 122b.

I see a disagreement here because
The Rambam says yes, God created the world, but He also created natural laws and He can put it on autopilot and if there is something unusual He will intervene
The Rambam says we live by a miracle and God constantly intervenes
Isn't this essentially the same thing? The same lady changing clothes?
Regarding the friend, it's like in the case of the Kuzari, where the friend is a Jewish sage. Does this formulation seem incorrect to you?
Thank you for your time!

This is a possible interpretation in the Rambam, but it can also be interpreted as a Rambam.
