Dogmatics Lessons 20-21 – Chabad and Breslav
In the last two lessons, you explained in detail the Haredi versus the non-Haredi religious view of the world.
In lesson 20, you mentioned that in your opinion Chabad and Breslav differ from all Haredim in this regard.
In the next lesson, do you intend to address them, to explain where you place them?
It’s pretty clear, I think, that they can’t be placed with the description you gave of the Haredi perspective.
In Chabad, for example (which I am familiar with), there is no mention of the reward or punishment of the afterlife, a fact that is similar in your description to the non-Haredi world.

From my perspective, it's interesting where you place Chabad, because on the one hand, the discourse on the next world is completely absent, and the talk about the coming of the Messiah is not about the reward aspect, but about the completeness of the world and the revelation of the completeness of God in the world (i.e., not a Haredi perspective).
In addition, the "partisan" issue also takes up less space with them. From their perspective, even if they manage to convert someone and have them become religious, it's a great success.
Many Chabad schools are intended from the outset not for a population that will become Chabad, but to bring them closer to traditionalism or even religiosity.
On the other hand, they are not interested in the world per se, but in its divine context. In other words, the world is interesting because it is a "world that belongs to God."
As I wrote, this is a Haredi fringe group. A kind of cult. Slightly different characteristics but essentially similar: the separation is very strong (the schools are intended for all kinds, but only in their management. So in supervision and mikvahs, etc.). There is no real tikkun olam except to bring it to do mitzvot. Extreme messianism. Extreme worship of the head of the cult. Perception of the world and man only through the theoretical description from their writings. Megalomania as if they are the purpose of the universe. As mentioned, a fringe group and not very important. Its members are sure that it is the face of everything (and perhaps that is why they believe that any such discussion should also deal with them).
I liked the sting at the end 🙂
In this context, I will note that I did not just ask. In lesson 20 you said that you might address them later.
I will just note that it seems that, in your opinion, at least most of these descriptions are also valid for some of the Haredi (for example, Mount Moriah), and yet in your (updated) view they belong to the non-Haredi group because there is no talk of reward and punishment and the afterlife.
And so I asked where you place Chabad (to the extent that it is irrelevant to you. I am trying to refine your view) - a Haredi or Haredi group?
What is the difference between Chabad and Haredi?
I am asking about Chabad because I know them well, but perhaps there are other such groups.
I'm glad you took it in good spirits. 🙂
The Haredi are not really there, but at the opposite pole. They are enthusiastic supporters of Zionism, and Chabad is vehemently opposed to it. They work to fix the world (according to their concepts) not only in the sense of a plurality of commandments. The Mustardil work to bring the Messiah into the world in realistic ways, while Chabad is the opposite (only by a plurality of commandments and Judaism). In this definition, they are completely on the non-Haredi side. It is true that the Mustardil also have a leadership cult and dogmatics that interpret everything according to the ideology in the Holy Books of Didhon.
I am not familiar with Chabad's attitude to halakha and its readiness to interpret in a way that is adapted to the changing reality, and whether they are Haredi or not in this regard. In this regard, the Mustardil are indeed Haredi.
