Donation receipt

שו”תDonation receipt
asked 7 years ago

Hello Rabbi,
I placed a box in the synagogue where I pray for donations to a charity. The box has accumulated a nice amount and I am transferring it to the charity. Am I allowed to ask the charity to make the receipt for the amount in my name (so that I can receive a tax refund on it)?
Is there fraud/plagiarism here on the part of the donors from the synagogue?
Is there theft of the state here (since ostensibly the purpose of tax refunds on donations is to encourage people to donate, whereas here I received a refund even though I did not donate)

thanks

Very problematic. Mainly fraud by the state that is not supposed to give you a tax refund, and perhaps also by the donors who are giving up your tax money (the state provides services to all of us).
