Dormitory

שו”תCategory: HalachaDormitory
asked 11 months ago

Haredi men and young men (who wear suits, as you say) who are scheduled for conscription do not receive dormitories. Following this, Minister Ben-Zur of the Social Security Administration decided that the rest of the population will also not receive a dormitory discount. Now I have a one-year-old daughter and I pay 4,000 shekels, and I am a student, so it simply wipes us out financially.
Is it permissible to work illegally to make ends meet?
I agree that I am not asking legally, unless there is a halakhic problem with it.

I think there is no problem.

Can you elaborate?

מיכי Staff replied 11 months ago

What's the problem? The minister is robbing him and he's taking justice for himself.

Is not providing a benefit from the state considered robbery? Furthermore, if everyone takes matters into their own hands in such matters, the state coffers will be severely damaged.

This is not a failure to provide a benefit. The law states that he deserves it, and the minister cannot rob him of it against the law. It is not his father's money, and he cannot act like a robber. Not everyone will do this, but only those who want to save their wealth from the robbers. The categorical order cannot serve as a shield for robbers against people who have been robbed.
