Electricity on Shabbat – Shabbulb

שו”תCategory: HalachaElectricity on Shabbat – Shabbulb

peace,
About a month ago, I asked a question on the site under the title “Electricity on Shabbat because of a builder.”
We debated for a moment about the position of the living Ben Ish Chai as you present it in an audio lesson on the website.
I came across the following product this week: http://www.shabbulb.com
Beyond the poor halachic justifications on the website, the idea is funny, but following our conversation, it seems to me that according to the logic you presented on behalf of the living son, this patent should be banned.
What do you think?
Abraham

I don’t remember the argument, nor the son alive. But what’s wrong with that?

Hello,
The discussion then revolved around the question of whether pressing a button and flowing current into a device is the end of its construction. Is a fan that is off a fan?
In our case, this device is an LED bulb, where the LEDs are mounted on a disc with holes inside the bulb. You move the disc with the holes and thus "turn on or off" the bulb.
I'm actually asking whether, according to your method, rotating the disc and exposing or hiding the LEDs is not the same as turning it on with an electric button. In both cases, to illuminate, you need to perform an action, one electrical and one mechanical. There's a video that shows exactly that.
It seems to me that even if the current passes, if the LEDs are hidden, until you manually move the disc, the bulb lights up in potential only. In other words, here ions are flowing and here photons are flowing… what's the difference?
Best regards,
Abraham

The intention was of course – electrons are flowing here and photons there

There is a very big difference. When current flows in a device or a light bulb, it changes it itself, which is why the prophet writes that there is a builder here (changing it from death to life). Rotating the holes to reveal or hide the light does not change anything. It is just like putting a curtain in front of it, so it is clear that there is no problem with it.
