Emotion, forgiveness and everything in between… (The whole world)

I need advice.
The recitation of the Selichot, which consists of hymns like “Yabchalet Hasharon, we must bring it, and before your throne the wheels of your supplication,” etc., etc., is dry to me and, above all, clearly incomprehensible. The commentary also does not connect me and does not cause any special awakening or emotion (which, as is known, is the main purpose of reciting them). Most of the time, the commentary is not connected to the text. Under the word “David,” it can be written “Am Yisrael – called the House of David,” and so on. After decades of reciting Selichot at a dizzying pace of recitation and without any melody, is there a way to reconnect? And is giving up reciting them such a bad thing?

The concession is not so bad and is even necessary in your situation. There is no point in just muttering when there is no halachic obligation to do so. The hard way is to study the Selichot in advance and understand what they are about before praying, and then perhaps you can connect with them. The easy way is, for example, to come to the prayer near the end of the Selichot and say something that speaks to you.
