Enthusiasm for the work of God
Does the Rabbi see value in “enthusiasm in the service of God”? Or are these personal desires, and should be done because it is a duty and nothing more?
And perhaps there is even a deficit in this, because it is inevitable that enthusiasm will harm action out of duty… and on the other hand, it can make action easier, and prevent the risk of falling.
Enthusiasm can be helpful in being diligent in doing things. I don’t think it detracts from the sense of duty. At least if the enthusiasm comes second (but he has an obligation to do things even without enthusiasm). See Agali Tal’s introduction regarding Torah study, which says that one must study out of a sense of duty, but the joy of learning does not detract.
