Has God surrendered to the problematic reality?
In Jeremiah 16, end of verse 6.
Is this simply a statement to the prophet that this is what they do in reality in normal mourning, and that in the future they will not ‘deserve’ this, R”l?
Or even worse…
That God recognizes this reality and even though He forbade it in the Torah, it is now being done and is a kind of ‘permitted’ at that time?
In other words, after the people sin and act in this way, has the prohibition already been weakened?
Is there a situation?
It may sound strange, but this seems much more appropriate to simplify, and the threat sounds more credible and successful…
Rashi and Radak refer to this there. Rashi says that it is just an expression of mourning, which is based on what was customary at the time, but it became an independent expression. To gather together = to mourn. Like the expression “to sit on the ground,” which means to mourn and not necessarily to sit on the ground. Radak wrote that because this is what Israel did there, the prophet expresses himself cynically: When everyone dies, they will no longer be able to gather together and shave their heads as they did.
But as I have written more than once from the Prophet, one can learn whatever one wants, and therefore I do not see much value in engaging in it.
Forgiveness from the Rabbi
But the simple explanation that emerges from the entire chapter seems more fun and more flowing as explained by Rabbi Mr. Miriam.
Rashi Vardak is less fun and less flowing. In my humble opinion.
