Regarding the new column. I read a bit online about interference. I understand why a water wave plus a depression in the water would create a surface for me, because it fills it. I didn’t understand why a light wave plus a minus light wave would create darkness. What is minus light anyway? thanks

A light wave is not light. An electromagnetic wave is a physical phenomenon (electromagnetic field), and when it hits our eyes, we experience a sensation of light. Therefore, there is no such thing as minus light. There is a negative value of the wave function (the field).
