Heschel’s “Torah from Heaven”
What does the Rabbi think of Heschel’s book “Torah from Heaven” and in particular his attempt to divide the Sages into two defined views (one “stream” according to the path of Rabbi Akiva and a second “stream” according to the path of Rabbi Yishmael)?

A fascinating book, but as is the case with sweeping and dichotomous approaches, those that explain the entire world on the basis of one fundamental division (the analytic-synthetic one :)), it is probably inaccurate. And many scholars have already criticized it. But in my opinion, there is no need for precision in the details here. The distinction in itself is enlightening and clearly has substance. Does it explain everything? Probably not.
