Hidebite with Yaron Yadan
Hello Rabbi
I heard your debate with Yaron Hidan in which you touched on matters of holiness and matters of the sages.
Now I have two questions.
One regarding holiness. Is there no loss of this important value in the method? Is there no meaning in \\\”kissing the rabbi’s hand\\\\” to study Torah in \\\”reverence\\\\” of the rabbi, since this is the source of the words of the living God? I am impressed by your words that this concept does not occupy a place in your view, and since we learn from sources throughout the generations that this concept has a serious meaning that is expressed not only as a tool that shows importance, since in relation to a president or a king there is no way to treat them as saints. So to summarize the question, then this is what holiness is from your perspective?
And the second question regarding the sages
It is true that the Sages are human and can make mistakes, but haven’t we learned that there is value in group unity? Ultimately, no small court can overturn the words of a larger court. If a law has been passed, I cannot act in my own way when I don’t have a good enough argument and all I have is “There is a possibility that the Sages were wrong and because this is a difficult trial, then I will choose what my judgment leads me to.” I cannot disagree with the move simply because I think that there is a possibility that the person who said it was wrong.
Thank you very much.
