Holding a pre-seder before the real seder in the era of Corona

שו”תCategory: HalachaHolding a pre-seder before the real seder in the era of Corona
asked 6 years ago

Hello Rabbi.
Since there is a commandment to hold the Seder in each person’s home, and since my mother will be left alone, I wanted to make sure there was a halachic problem with holding the Seder before the holiday via video call (Zoom) when we only read the Haggadah without mentioning the name of God or reciting the blessings and without eating matzah/a table of offerings, etc.
Another reason I see for having something like this is for educational reasons for children.
If not, could I, as an individual, go through the Haggadah at noon today before nightfall? (There are editors who do this) and if so, what is the difference between the cases?
Thank you very much.

The Kiddush and the Seder should begin with the stars rising. What you do first is considered Torah study or just something valuable, but it is not an obligation. Of course, if you don’t say the blessing and don’t eat, then how do you fulfill your obligation? I don’t understand the question. Of course, from an educational perspective, you can do anything. And of course, you can go through the Haggadah at any time you want. What is the question? If you think it is essential for your mother to participate via Zoom, I think this is also permissible on a holiday (see the last column about this).
