How do we know that God is perfect?
How do we know that God is complete in all kinds of perfections, without deficiency? (If we can find evidence other than the ontological evidence…) By the way, many thanks to the rabbi for the site and the answers, it’s really good that there is such a place where one can clarify questions about faith and Torah.
Hello Shay.
The ontological evidence does not prove this, but rather assumes it. It seems to me that there is no clear source for this except for the accepted tradition. There are sources in the verses for all sorts of abilities and supreme characteristics of the Blessed One. I do not remember a source that is complete in all perfections. Some philosophers have argued that the concept of perfection should be embodied in some entity that stands at the top of the pyramid (which is the source of the partial perfections in the world). In other words: why would the pyramid of perfections stop somewhere in the middle? I do not think this is a very strong argument, although I would not dismiss it.
