Interest

שו”תCategory: HalachaInterest
asked 2 years ago

Hello Rabbi, I wanted to ask a question about interest.
I started investing in stocks and virtual currencies such as Bitcoin. And there are all sorts of possibilities to lend stocks or currencies at interest to all sorts of companies, most of which are owned by non-Jews. Is it possible, even though the interest is cut since most of the companies are owned by non-Jews, and also to include the opinion of the Rashba at interest that has no clear owner?

I am not familiar with the subject and it is difficult for me to answer. I will only address the points that I understood. There is no cancellation by majority in people, and therefore the fact that most of them are Gentiles is not helpful. Although if you mean the majority of the elected and not the majority of the owners of the company, then this is following the majority and not cancellation by majority, and this also applies to people. The prohibition of lending at interest to institutions (such as a bank or business) should be discussed, and there is certainly room for the opinion that this is not included in the Torah prohibition of interest.
