Is a moral imperative unnecessary?

If God gave morality Himself and the Torah is not intended to say moral things (which we learn only from our personal conscience)

So what is the point of the Torah commanding moral things like “thou shalt not murder,” for example? It neither adds nor subtracts, because we still know that God wants us not to be murdered and that it is not “recommended” to do so.

I discussed this in my column on Halacha and Morals. 541.
