Is it permissible to burn a new covenant?

Rabbi Michael
When I revisited Parashat Vaytse, I thought there was some evidence for what you write regarding the question of whether it is permissible (or even obligatory) or forbidden to burn the Book of the New Covenant (in the Book Between the Pages). If we say (like Rashi) that teraphim are idolatry, and if it is permissible to take and burn them, why did Jacob give permission to Laban to search for them? Furthermore, why did he curse and punish the one who licked them with death? There are ways to excuse it, but simply put, Jacob acted patiently with others, even if they were idolaters. And also at the end of the parashah, each one swears by his own God.

Indeed, but before the giving of the Torah there was no real halakha and it is difficult to provide evidence from there. For example, one can always say that it was by word of mouth (like Jacob marrying two sisters).
