Is morality a peta morgana?
Peace and blessings to the rabbi.
I sat in the audience during your debate with Prof. Enoch and was greatly pleased by your words.
I understood from your words that we perceive morality in a way that is similar to sensory perception – in the eyes of reason, as you said.
My question is why do we believe in morality as true and not as a Peta Morgana? After all, in our sensory experiences we often doubt and verify them from several angles so as not to fall into optical illusions.
Maybe the whole moral idea is actually a kind of optical illusion of the mind’s eye? Even if we accept the obligation to listen to morality, maybe we don’t even know what it is?
One of the reasons I believe in sensory experience is that all people see the same thing. But when it comes to morality, that’s simply not true!
