Kidnapped or Hamas
I remember the rabbi addressing this dilemma but I don’t remember exactly where, so forgive me for asking about something you’ve already addressed.
Assuming that Hamas can be brought down, as the government and other elements in the security establishment claim, is bringing down Hamas more important than returning the hostages (assuming that these two goals are contradictory)?

We need to understand that if there is no possibility of a deal, then one way or another we will not get the hostages, and therefore the question does not exist.
From what I understand (commentators in the studios and former generals) there is no possibility of a deal precisely because of this point, namely Hamas' demand for a complete cessation of fighting.
I do not see a scenario for a deal with Hamas if there are no guarantees that Israel will stop the fighting in Gaza and promise not to collapse Hamas.
The rabbi disagrees?
At least not for a total deal that would return all the hostages.
It is quite clear that Hamas will keep a significant number of hostages to pressure a cessation of hostilities.
It's what I said. The question is irrelevant because we probably won't get the kidnapped ones. And probably not the Hamas coup either.
