Kosher for cosmetic products

שו”תKosher for cosmetic products
asked 6 years ago

Hello,
I was invited today to a lecture given by a rabbi on the kosherness of cosmetic products.
I wonder: Why is this relevant? Aside from certain niches that might be discussed – rubies for Passover perhaps? – can a real kosher issue arise in the cosmetics area?
What do you think?

I don’t know enough about the subject. If there is a prohibition on enjoyment, it is relevant even when not eating. Although it is usually not suitable for dog food, then there is no problem, but if there is something that is suitable, there can be a problem. We should also discuss even the prohibitions on eating from a sicha as a drink (although most opinions do not rule this out. See the booklet Chiddushei HaGiri’z HaKatan on Yuma).

And by the way, you're the one who was invited to the lecture today. Tell me what you heard there.

Even if the product is unsuitable for dog food, isn't using foreskin olive oil in hand cream, for example (instead of kosher olive oil) considered enjoying foreskin oil (because it saved me from using kosher oil instead in the cream manufacturing process, and therefore saved costs).

The foreskin does not absorb blood, so even if it is forbidden to produce such an oil for the reason you wrote, it seems to me that its use is not forbidden.
According to you, every product for Passover should be kosher, including cleaning products. After all, in their production they used leaven and saved on the use of a kosher substance, and therefore enjoyed the leaven.

Apparently, if you bought the oil at full price, there is no side benefit here (from the roots of Bel”z).

For this reason, there is no benefit in buying sourdough.

If there is a prohibition on the production of the cream, and there is a company that produces a similar cream in a kosher manner, then seemingly there is an obligation to buy the cream that is produced in a kosher manner, otherwise the hands of those committing the offense are strengthened.

Apparently, since a prohibition is only a rabbinical prohibition, and it is not clear that the same company sells oil that is forbidden, the rabbinical prohibition is questionable, and so on.
