Mehadrin Command Refrigerator

שו”תCategory: HalachaMehadrin Command Refrigerator
asked 5 years ago

Hello Rabbi!
I am in the process of buying a refrigerator. Some refrigerators have a Shabbat Mehadrin control.
I wanted to know if I have to buy from the Mehadrin Shabbat Command or not? It’s a Sharp refrigerator.
I understand that this refers to opening the door, which lets cold air in and starts the engine. Is this forbidden or just a rule?

Some rabbis allow opening a refrigerator door even though air enters and causes the motor to start. See, for example, here: https://ph.yhb.org.il/01-17-08/?gclid=CjwKCAjw5vz2BRAtEiwAbcVIL8bGPK-TGhJ1qXJzKdj-zTuF3ipW8xurZu7onRbVfO4DFWZ2OlzH9xoCEVQQAvD_BwE

There are other things in today's refrigerators that can be a problem besides the thermostat. You have to check each case individually. Some make digital records of openings, and so on.
