Minimum prayer obligation

שו”תCategory: HalachaMinimum prayer obligation
asked 11 months ago

My teenager is not connecting. He is 14 years old.
When he is in a meeting, there is an obligation to attend, and he complies with it in a respectful manner because he doesn’t want to be kicked out.
What is the definition of a mitzvah and what is the minimum required?
You can also refer to an article or book that provides a clear definition of the mitzvah.

First, I must say that I very much understand him. Many of those who join the prayer do so out of a lack of honesty and critical thinking. The main part of the prayer is standing and reciting the Shema and its blessings. Here you can see a whole book with abbreviated versions for those who have difficulty. He talks there precisely about the question of how and how to abbreviate for those who can’t get along with everything.

If the rabbi could expand on the fact that those who join the prayer are mainly due to dishonesty, etc., that would be great.

Part of prayer is words that are not supposed to speak to us. Outdated formulations that do not truly express what we want to say. Sometimes these are requests from God that we do not believe will truly be answered. And all this is repeated as a matter of duty several times every day until it is unbearable. I have elaborated on this in several places.

So how did prayer become the center of the life of a worshiper?
Hours.
Holidays like Yom Kippur
An endless struggle for those with ADHD.
All because of the destruction of the Temple?
If it is built, can we stop with this, slaughter an animal, and simply ask for forgiveness?

Praying in the synagogue, especially on holidays, is a challenge for everyone, not just those with attention problems. And it is not true that it is the center of the life of the worshiper of God. As far as I am concerned, it is a halakhic constraint that must be dealt with and nothing more. Worship of God can be expressed in the study and observance of commandments and moral behavior. The hours of Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah really should be shortened very much (I bring reading material).
By the way, prayer is mostly not a request for forgiveness and atonement.
