Modesty and simplicity

שו”תCategory: generalModesty and simplicity
asked 6 years ago

Hello Rabbi
There was a heated discussion at our meeting about rabbis traveling in luxury cars, and some people praised these rabbis and said that this is how they attract those who come to hear them, and that these cars are comfortable, and maybe his father brought all sorts of different and strange arguments, and my opinion was that despite all these arguments, they are not enough to make the matter moral, and in my opinion, it is despicable that a person who is supposed to symbolize simplicity comes up with the opposite of this, and I wanted to get your opinion on the subject.
thanks

It’s hard to give a clear answer. It’s indeed better to act simply, but each to their own considerations. Obviously, all of this is only if it is done at his own expense (and he is rich).
