Morality from God? Or obedience to God from morality.

שו”תCategory: philosophyMorality from God? Or obedience to God from morality.

Greetings to the rabbi.
One person made the following claim to me:
It is usually claimed that the validity of moral intuition comes from an objective God who created them, and in any case, this is not just a non-binding feeling, but rather about good and evil.
But what? Our duty to obey God as the source of the best from nothing also stems, if not from our moral intuition, and in any case, to project the validity of morality onto something whose validity is valid only because of morality itself is a failure.
What does the rabbi think about this claim? Is he right or wrong and why?
Thank you very much.

First, to the extent that you can ask where logic comes from: from logic? There are always primary principles that cannot be based on other principles. The duty to obey God is a primary duty, and from it the other moral duties are derived. But in my opinion this is not a moral obligation. See my article here on the site about philosophical good conscience.

A person needs to overcome their moral intuition, otherwise they will go overboard with the "and you won't have your turn".
