Is it permissible to watch a comedy, for example? In other words, should we really stop the course of life from the happy parts that make it up, or is the intention to ban extraordinary happy events and allow music anyway?

Stopping life for two years (one year for father and one year for mother) sounds crazy. Judaism requires not even going to a meal with the dead and forbids asking for peace. How can one live without the essential and joyful parts of life? The common perception of mourning is to continue life and give memorials and limited prohibitions, but this is not the case in Judaism. Why?

But your assumptions are far from self-evident. There is also value in not dwelling on the death of a parent and internalizing the connection with him.
