My son. What should I direct him to invest in?
By God’s grace, I was blessed with an exceptionally gifted son.
His academic (and social) achievements at B.E. are excellent.
This is in Halacha, this is in sports, this is in the Bible, this is in the sciences, this is in English, this is in history, this is in mathematics, and in every field we study in Talmud, Torah and what not.
On Shabbat, I study Hebrews, Hebrews, and Hebrews and interpret with him and am truly happy with the gift that God has given me.
- But every Saturday I’m satisfied and can’t decide.
His rabbi (who is highly respected, and in a community that has many yeshiva heads, dayanim, and rabbis) praises him with truly extraordinary praise and claims that, based on his sharp skills and dedication, he is perhaps one of the greatest of the next generation.
But I look around me and see many religious leaders, some of whom are truly impressive in their knowledge of Torah and more, and almost all of whom, in my understanding, bring real destruction to the people.
They are literally the bullies of the late second house.
Supporting the accused of bribery, fraud and breach of trust
Their eyes are blinded by the destruction and division it brings upon the people. They don’t see a single inch ahead, trapped in strange concepts about the facts, etc.
The TAH who are not like that are a minority.
Stylistically, if I encourage him and direct him towards Torah excellence, he will probably be crazy about worldly and national affairs like most of the T’Ach.
I assume that if he directs his investments in other avenues, Stisty will emerge healthy, straight, and normal.
Should we give up on the Torah future?
(Based on a reasonable assumption that there is both, but emphasis should be placed on the home)
I ask with a heavy but sincere heart.
I would appreciate a detailed answer if possible, and I assume I’m not the only one at a crossroads in whether or not to invest in Torah. Or, in light of the measured results, is it better to turn to other avenues?
