Norm and value

שו”תCategory: moralNorm and value

Do you think a certain norm should always be based on certain value(s)?
That is, is a norm that is not based on a value in your opinion baseless and illogical (although still legally valid, of course)? That is, especially for you who advocate an intuitive method, is it enough, for example, that our intuition says that the norm “thou shalt not murder” is a beautiful and moral norm and worth obeying, or does it need to be based on the value of life?

Nothing is needed. But it is likely that the negative value in murder (the norm, in your language) stems from the value of life.
