Obligation in matzos
In honor of Rabbi Shalom
I read the Rabbi’s article in the morning about secular Zionists like the Rabbi from Funbiz and how the people are not with the religious public and therefore it is impossible to impose the mitzvot on the public in the form of legislation. Does the Rabbi think that today, because half of the people are religious ultra-Orthodox, there is room for imposing the mitzvot on the other half through legislation?
No. A. Because there is no justification for imposing on the minority. B. Because Bibi’s supporters are not necessarily religious.
The rabbi has an article on why there is no mandatory law today regarding matzah at noon. The rabbi did not go into the halakhic matter.
No. But we must distinguish between secular and religious. Simply put, with regard to religious people, there is a law of coercion even today, unless we apply the principle of fast not here. And with regard to secular people, there is agreement among all the jurists that there is no law of coercion, because there is no one who knows how to prove it, and babies who were captured, etc.
