Opening of the Western Wall Tunnels

Following the opening of the Western Wall tunnels, 17 soldiers died from Arab riots. According to industry sources, Benjamin Netanyahu did not consult with anyone before he made this move. And this was done mainly (as usual) to please the base. On the one hand, if you look at it today, it is one of the most visited and important places for Jews and has great historical significance for the people of Israel. On the other hand, 17 soldiers were killed because of this. Do you think it is worth the price?

The question is presented incorrectly. The question is whether to surrender to terrorist threats. Some argue that we should not, even if it costs human life (see Rambam, 3:11, Yesodei HaTorah, 5:55). The opinion of the “experts” depends on values, and their inclusion policy is a function of a value position and not just facts and expertise. A prime minister should make this decision, not the experts. And from another angle; you cannot know how many victims our constant surrender to such threats has claimed. That is why it is very difficult to make such calculations. Beyond that, there are values for which we take risks. Like democracy and the rule of law, for example, because of which we don’t kill every terrorist and everyone who belongs to a terrorist organization. That costs us many more human lives. All of this doesn’t mean that I think Bibi acted correctly. It just means that this criticism is biased and superficial, as is customary in our country.
