Political patronage

Good evening!
What do you think political integrity is?

  1. Act in the voter’s best interest (in your opinion), even if it goes against their stated position.
  2. Act exactly according to the voter’s wishes, even if you believe it is a wrong move. (In the interests of the voter himself)
  3. Once you are elected, you have a duty to act solely according to your own judgment, even if it goes against the opinion or interests of the public that elected you.

I ask in the context of polls I have seen, which show a huge majority of the public supporting the hostage deal. There is also a majority in favor among Likud voters (posted on Amit Segal’s WhatsApp channel not long ago)
So if we assume for the sake of discussion an unfounded assumption, that Likud members are guided by political integrity, what should they do?
To say “the people are stupid”, (or more gently: they don’t understand prices, etc.) or to act in accordance with the “will” of the people.

These polls say nothing. The usual nonsense. Didn’t they explain to people what it means to end the war? To leave Hamas? To promise them that they won’t eliminate them? When they detail it, they’ll get completely different answers. That’s why these polls are worthless. As usual. If there is a clear will of the people (which does not exist here), and if the people do not lack detailed information (in which case their wishes do not have much meaning), it seems that morally one should follow their will. But this is entirely hypothetical, because that is never the case.
