Prohibition of masturbation

שו”תCategory: HalachaProhibition of masturbation
asked 5 years ago

Hello Rabbi
What is the validity of the prohibition on masturbation? I am not referring to ejaculation through organs or ejaculation on a barren surface, but rather to self-masturbation. There are discussions in the Gemara that assume that this is prohibited. But where does the prohibition come from?

Follow-up question –
Today, it is accepted by professionals that a ban on masturbation is impossible (at least for a large portion of young men) and harmful in that it exacts a price of guilt and futile internal warfare.
As a first-order arbiter, do you think there is a possibility of reopening this prohibition for discussion from the sources?
And a follow-up question, if the answer to the previous question is yes, then what do you think the halakha would be in such a discussion?

I think not. This is not a question for professionals. Even without them, everyone knows that it is difficult. So we cope. And even if we fail, God Almighty does not come complaining about His creatures. It is also almost impossible not to speak slanderously.
What needs to be done to eliminate feelings of guilt, etc., is to explain to people that the severity of the prohibition is not as terrible as it is presented (although most opinions say it is), and to empty all the Kabbalistic baggage that is very oppressive and burdensome and leads to complications.,

R’ Nachman of Breslov married at the age of 13. It is not great wisdom that he spoke about keeping the covenant..

We learn from Jacob who said “Rishit Oni”… meaning with Jacob it was special. With other people it is not.

And there is another saying that idleness is when he can have a child instead. But when he is not married, it is not an issue.

There is no hint in the Torah that it is forbidden.

The last posak, in the Torah there are many "hints" to prohibition, even to methods that the rabbinical prohibition is based on in the Torah. See the strange words of the Ari in the chapter "Khonut Khi" in the Druschi of the Night, Druschi 7.

PS: Nachman was compulsively engaged in keeping the covenant as a result of: OCD, among the many mental illnesses he suffered from…

The Last Posk and Benjamin
All these are arguments that are irrelevant to Halacha, these are explicit conclusions and I don't care what Rabbi Nachman was and when he got married
