The Rambam (according to the Gamma) ruled that studying the books of the Book of Zechariah is forbidden, and it seems to me that he adds that the other books of the Genitive are also heretical, etc. What is this? It is not wisdom that my student is forbidden to read the words of my opponents. If I believe that my method is the truth – what am I afraid of? Maybe it only refers to beginning students, but serious people can?

Hello. The source of Maimonides' words is in the Gemara itself, "And you shall not turn." I have been having trouble with this for a long time, and it is clear to me that even if Maimonides is right and even if the words came from the mouth of Gevora, I would not uphold it (in the sense of "If God had said Joshua ben Nun, I would not have obeyed her"), precisely because of your consideration. But since I have some faith in Gevora, and also in Maimonides, I have thought about it over and over again and will briefly write here what I brought up. I will start by saying that the Rambam himself violated this prohibition on his own initiative (similar to Radbaz's comment on the prohibition of returning to Egypt). Therefore, it seems to me that this prohibition is addressed to those who obey him. Those who are troubled by the questions and do so for existential reasons will not obey, and in any case the Rambam does not address him. Perhaps those who read these books only as the advice of instinct and in order to seek excuses for themselves and not in order to truly forge a path for themselves, there is a reason to forbid this from them. Likewise, the Tashabatz writes in Magen Avot that it is permissible to consult these books in order to know what to answer Epicurus, and it seems to me that it is also for the Epicurus within us.
