Prophecies from the Torah
11:45
Peace to the rabbi. I recently had a discussion with an atheist friend and I gave him examples of prophecies from the Torah as proof of its truth: in Deuteronomy, Chapter 28:
And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; and thou shalt serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers, wood and stone. And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall there be rest for the sole of thy foot: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of soul. And your life shall be full of trouble for you; and you shall fear day and night, and shall not be sure of your life. In the morning you shall say, “Who will give me evening?” And in the evening you shall say, “Who will give me morning?” Because of the fear of your heart which you shall fear, and because of the sight of your eyes which you shall see.
And I told him how the Scriptures know that the Jewish people will be exiled “from one end of the earth to the other,” which indeed happened throughout history, that there has never been another people like the Jewish people who were scattered everywhere, and there is almost no place in the world where there is not a Jewish community, present or past.
And how does Scripture know that there will be no rest for the Jews, because of the hatred of the Gentiles there?
Another example:
Leviticus Chapter 26
And I will lay waste the land; and your enemies who dwell in it shall make it desolate. And I will scatter you among the nations, and I will send a sword after you; and your land shall be desolate, and your cities shall be desolate. …. And as for those who remain among you, I will send a fever into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and they will pursue them, and the sound of a chase will be heard, and they will flee from the sword and fall, and no one will pursue them. And they will stumble every man against his brother, as before the sword, and no one will pursue them; and you will have no standing before your enemies. And you will perish among the nations; and the land of your enemies will devour you. And those who remain among you will dwell in their iniquity, in the lands of your enemies; and even in the iniquities of their fathers will they dwell with you.
I asked him how the mysterious writer knew that when the people of Israel were in exile, their enemies would not be able to settle in the land, their enemies would be desolate over it, and indeed we know that in the history of the Land of Israel for two thousand years, all the great empires were here, and they were unable to do anything significant here, except for a few isolated cities, but no one was able to establish a real state here! Except for the people of Israel who returned a little over two hundred years ago!
And above all, the question arises, where can Scripture guarantee them that they will return to the land?!
In the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 30:
3 And the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have mercy upon thee; and he will turn again, and gather thee from all the people whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee, unto this place. 4 If thou be cast out unto the uttermost part of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee. 5 And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; And may He do you good and multiply you, from your fathers. And indeed we returned to the land by a different path, and the Jewish people, in seventy years of statehood. Reached unprecedented achievements that had no example in any state that was established in those years… Our ancestors could only dream of what we have today… I was sure that he would remain stunned but very quickly he gave me answers that were very difficult for me to deal with: A. How does Scripture know that the Jewish people will be exiled “from one end of the earth to the other”
Easy. It was a well-known practice at that time.
There is no shortage of peoples to whom this has happened.
Here are examples – just from the Assyrian exiles! –

That is, the “prophet” predicts from what he sees and knows around him.
B. How does Scripture know that there will be no rest for the Jews, due to the hatred of the Gentiles there?
“There will be no rest” is a complex and not very clear concept.
Have American Jews had no rest for over a hundred years?
Let’s try another way: can you give an example of an ethnic minority that is “comfortable”?
Are Palestinians comfortable in Syria? Are Druze comfortable in Iraq? Are Armenians comfortable in Turkey?
I would be happy if you could please explain to me the difference between the prophecy of the biblical prophet and the prophecy of this Jew:

Does the rabbi have answers to all the questions that were very difficult for me? Especially the issue of the Jews of the United States, and the Gentiles who did manage to establish themselves in the land, contrary to the prophecy in the Torah.

So I don't understand, are these prophecies a lie? Did they never come true?
Eldad Shalom. How did you jump to this conclusion from my words? The prophecy that was prophesied about exile and return to the land is a lie? What I wrote is that it is difficult to prove the truth of the Torah by its power because it is subject to interpretations, and according to your friend also because the ability to predict exile is not that impressive (I don’t really agree with that). But this prophecy was fulfilled.
As a general rule, there is a difference between saying that it has not been proven that the prophecy was fulfilled or that its fulfillment was not impressive and saying that it was not fulfilled.
Thank you.
What is difficult for me is the phrase “and your enemies have devastated it” which apparently did not happen, since the Gentiles settled here well… and also that “you will have no rest” did not take place, since America has always been wonderful for the Jews. So either the prophecy is being fulfilled in full or we are saying that it was fulfilled by a third, half and a quarter …
In the short time, in the book Our Generation Against the Questions of Eternity, the river sees the truth of the prophecies much better. And by and large, this is due to 4 rare parameters that all exist in prophecies. Regarding the matter of desolation of your enemy, it is in the book of Leviticus, which discusses the Babylonian exile. But Ibn Ezra understands desolation, meaning that they will be astonished at the destruction. When? Saber after and near it. Regarding the American exile, it does not bother at all that there are exceptions. And was there not generally a state of restlessness? Moreover, the Jews of America contribute to Jewish Israel and are thus part of the return enterprise, and in a sense, they are less in exile. Moreover, the entire new era stands under the sign of ‘redemption’. And if you insist so much: how do you know that their peace will last forever? And it must be extended.
They really didn't settle down well. You chose the least successful example. What Gentiles settled down here well? After all, the gap between the situation before Zionism arrived and after is absolute and unequivocal.
And when it says you will not know peace, it doesn't mean every moment and every place, but rather a general description. You can also ask about people in the Holocaust when they had some moment of peace. It's not serious. In general, there is no doubt that the exile was a lasting trauma.
