Prosecution of Yeshiva students

שו”תCategory: moralProsecution of Yeshiva students
asked 4 months ago

Hello, Honorable Rabbi, for some time now I have been plagued by a question that I have not yet found an answer to. The Haredim claim that the Torah protects and saves, right? then If the Torah protects and saves Why aren’t the yeshiva students being prosecuted for the omission? They failed just like the Shin Bet and the IDF, or even failed even more than they did, because the power of God and the Torah is greater than that of humans. Or why not even prosecute them, even interrogate them and get answers from them? Why did October 7th happen?

An old question that has been asked by many. It has no basis, of course. The state prosecutes according to the law. The law does not recognize what the Torah protects. But the state (meaning the coalition) is willing to accept that there is a group whose view is this and exempt it from military service (this is not the legal situation at the moment, but they want it to be the legal situation). There are those who give their haters a terrible beating. Are you suggesting that they be tried for this in court?

Hence the proof that the Torah does condemn and punish!! Why are you being brought to justice!!!

מיכי Staff replied 4 months ago

Absolutely not. There is certainly protection and salvation here, but I did not find Torah in any of these. It seems that something else protects them (a coalition of defense and defense). To test the thesis that the Torah is protecting, one must test it on someone who studies Torah.

In my opinion, they should and must be brought to justice. It is only fair to me and I assume to all Israeli citizens that they have taken on an invented role in the physical-spiritual defense of our country. Just as we point the finger of blame at the Shin Bet and the IDF, we should point the finger of blame at yeshiva students.
And I always get stupid answers that "the people of Israel are infidels," "this is punishment from God," etc. So if this is really the reason, that we are infidels and therefore deserve that they put a baby in an oven and raped bodies, then let's sit down and settle it with the help of privatization. Anyone who wants direct protection from the "messengers" of God who fight our enemies in a mystical, almost pagan way is welcome to pay them money. We will see in the future who was able to truly protect and preserve them.

You have completely deviated from our simple and accepted answer as guardians of our Torah, that what happened on October 7th is because of you who are shirking from observing the Torah and commandments, you brought this calamity (punishment) upon all of us, and especially upon yourselves.

There is a clear logical fallacy here. The Haredim never claimed that their Torah would save the people of Israel and that there was no need for an army at all, but that a significant part of the defense of the people was done by the Torah. This does not mean that they did not do their utmost - they may have done everything that needed to be done and yet what happened happened. You know what would have happened without their Torah.

רוז replied 4 months ago

Oh, well, and they still remain part of the defense system, and as such they must be held accountable.
Just as Shabak and Tzahal are separate parts of the defense system and are still being investigated, so are the yeshiva students.

רוז replied 4 months ago

Zvi, if that's the case, what's the point of paying yeshiva students on behalf of the state? We have the right to "refrain," our right to "be punished," and our right not to pay you money.

Friends, I find it a little hard to believe that this stupid discussion is going on here. I suggest you stop this nonsense. If you want to waste time, that's completely legitimate. Do it among yourselves.
