Protons, Identity, and Leibniz

שו”תCategory: generalProtons, Identity, and Leibniz

peace!
Unlike atoms, which differ from each other in their properties (i.e., “emergency”), there are no differences between protons and it can be stated that they are particles with no identity or shape at all (but only physical properties such as mass, etc.). In other words, they are nothing but points (or waves according to other interpretations)! If so, it turns out that there is no way to distinguish one proton from another, so how does this fit in with Leibniz that when there is no difference, it is the same thing?
Thank you very much!

I asked this based on the distinction between fermions and bosons. Protons are fermions and therefore there is evidence for Leibniz that no two fermions are in the same state (energy and other properties). But bosons are evidence against him, since bosons can be in exactly the same state (this is what happens in Bose-Einstein condensation). Although he can always say that these are not many particles but one large particle.

Good evening!
I would like to discuss this from another aspect: Is any form/identity of a particle of matter the real form, or only a conscious one? That is, by the grace of nature itself, for example, a collection of roots and leaves is not a “tree”, only man determines that.
Thank you very much!

Where did you get this strange idea? Man does not determine, but diagnoses. Reality determines.

שואל אחר replied 7 months ago

Why a strange idea, it's pretty clear that nature doesn't know what a tree is.
You recognize leaves and roots as one entity.

Isn't that right?

Nature also doesn't know what a proton is. Nature knows nothing. Only humans know things. But seeing the tree as a tree is not an invention but a distinction/recognition.
