Question about leaven

שו”תCategory: HalachaQuestion about leaven
asked 9 years ago

Rabbi Michael, have a good week.
A question arose regarding leaven. I make natural soaps and some of them contain visible oats. Although they are not suitable for a dog to eat. But leaven also has a prohibition against pleasure, and the soaps are made for lubrication and there is pleasure in them. But on the other hand, we have seen that what is not suitable for eating does not have leaven on it. The question is, what is the ruling on them? Should they be sold to a gentile? Is this a leaven mixture that should not be sold and should not be used?
Thank you and a kosher and happy Passover.

If it’s not edible, there’s no need to sell it. It’s a good idea to seal it and mark it so there’s no fear of using it. Even in use, there’s room for flexibility. See here: http://ph.yhb.org.il/04-08-09/
