Question about the Temple
Hello Rabbi,
I saw that you wrote in your article that you hope the Temple will be vegetarian.
I wanted to ask 1, what will they do with it if not sacrifices? 2, what is the halachic basis you rely on to claim that there will be no sacrifices? Do you have any midrashim? Rishonim Aharonim? After all, Maimonides and many others say that there will be sacrifices…
Do I need sources to hope? That’s what I hope. Beyond that, even if Maimonides wrote this, does he have sources? Rav Kook wrote this in his vision of vegetarianism, and he relies on a midrash that writes this. It’s worth checking there.
If they are wondering what to do there, let them come to me and I will advise them.
There is a place to link this to the dispute between Maimonides and the Ramban about whether the house of the Medaksh is a house for work or a house for the Divine Presence, and work is only the instrument. Rabbi Ram HaCohen elaborated on this in one of his books.
In the book of the generation, Rabbi Kook presents the halachic way to do this.
In the redemption there will be no temple and no sacrifices.
All of these have their roots in the Bible.
Leviticus 17:7
The reason for the sacrifices:
‘And they shall no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to goats after whom they prostitute themselves’
It is possible that the reason for the sacrifices being annulled by the sacrifice for idolatry is annulled by the reason for the sacrifices [according to Maimonides]
Indeed, in order to annul a deed, formal authority from the Sanhedrin is required, and this would probably be one of the reasons.
Or my offerings for bread…
As long as my life is bread for the layman, then ‘You shall be careful to sacrifice to me in its season’ From the sacrifice taken from the layman's table to the sacrifice taken from the high table.
And so on, many other worthy sermons from verses.
