Rabbi Kook’s fear of God

Hello Rabbi, you mentioned in one of your lessons the story about Rabbi Kook who came to the old settlement in Jerusalem to come to the Land and said, “There is a lot of fear of God here, but what a dark and small heaven.” Something like that… Does the Rabbi have a source for this? Where did the Rabbi hear about this?

I don’t remember. I think it’s around the part about faith being like heresy and heresy being like faith. I was told that in eight files it goes into more detail. Maybe you should search the Izhak forum. I once dealt with this there and the sources were cited. Or maybe those who are familiar with the writings of the Rabbis here will help.

There is no way that Rabbi Kook said that about the people of the old Yishuv. He was always very, very careful about their honor.

What is true, he wrote: “There is a heresy that is like confession, and a confession that is like a heresy. How: A person confesses that the Torah is from heaven, but that heaven appears to him in such strange forms that there is nothing left of the true faith in him…” (printed in the Lights of Faith) and that is probably what you meant.
