Rabbi Meir Kahane

שו”תRabbi Meir Kahane
asked 3 years ago

What do you think of Rabbi Kahane?
Do you see a flaw/improperty in a person who studies and appreciates Rabbi Kahane and participates in events in his memory despite his racist views towards Arabs on the grounds that this is how he saw the halakha and that he truly and sincerely believed that it was their law? Is it appropriate to distance oneself from him even though he was a scholar who believed in halakha? Incidentally, many (maybe even most) Orthodox rabbis agree with all of these halakhas of Rabbi Kahane, and even more extreme ones (raising and not lowering and other “racist” things), only they find all kinds of halakhic reasons to evade these commandments while Rabbi Kahane applies the things in practice. Essentially, what makes Rabbi Kahane different from other rabbis?

I do not agree with many of his statements, but there is nothing wrong with those who appreciate him or who participate in any ceremonies in his memory. And you are also right that many believe the same as he does and do not have the courage to order so or for technical reasons. In my opinion, he is wrong for real and not for technical reasons, but as mentioned, it does not matter. Those who appreciate him and identify with him for these positions are wrong but not wrong.
