Reciting the Shema Yisrael in the mosque

שו”תCategory: generalReciting the Shema Yisrael in the mosque

Hello Rabbi,
What do you think about the case of the soldiers who shouted “Shema Yisrael” inside a mosque? I heard an opinion that since on 7/10 the fighters came in the name of Islam, it is therefore appropriate to humiliate the Islam in whose name they are fighting against us.
Best regards,

I think it’s inappropriate to do this because it’s an insult to Islam in general. But it’s really not a big deal in my opinion. There is of course a practical consideration (how much harm it will do).

Why is it forbidden to humiliate Islam?

I wasn't talking about a halakhic prohibition. I wrote that it was inappropriate. And if it weren't for Demistipina, I would say that this is in the category of what I hate about you, you should not do to your friend (and yes, I know, your friend in Torah and mitzvot).

Rav Kook writes
that’You shall love your neighbor as yourself’
This is also between nations

Not to do to another nation what we would not want done to us
(and yes, he knew, your neighbor in Torah and commandments)

In the 1st and 2nd of Tevet

In fact, the ‘Shema Yisrael’ is the recitation of the ’Shahada’ in the mosque, in which the believer testifies ‘There is no God but Allah’. After all, both Judaism and Islam advocate pure monotheism. The dispute is regarding their statement that &#8217Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’, which Judaism does not accept, but believes that the Torah of Moses is eternal.

Nevertheless, I believe that IDF soldiers are not supposed to engage in 'interfaith dialogue', but rather leave this dialogue to religious leaders, who will discuss among themselves ways to strengthen faith against paganism and atheism and the common need to fight against savages who exploit religion to justify brutal acts of massacre and rape.

Best regards, Fishel

And the fighters' version:
In the article "They used us and threw us away": The fighters in the Jenin mosque tell what really happened there, on the "Srugim" website.
