Hello Rabbi,
I have been studying the lessons of Rabbi Lichtenstein (Baba Metzia, currently) in the community for some time now. We really enjoy the structure of the book (divided into lessons with an organized list of sources, followed by a written section that refers to the sources and tries to convey some scholarly point or analysis through them), but we feel that it sometimes focuses on very esoteric points (as is the nature of books written on the Seder). We would prefer to study a book that contains a selection of fundamental issues in the study of non-fiction – preferably in a structure similar to that of Rabbi Lichtenstein’s lessons (organized, with some sort of list of sources or a specific context from which one can understand the relevant sources).
Does the rabbi recommend a particular book or can he direct you to a style similar to what is described above?

I don’t know. But I don’t think Rabbi Lichtenstein deals with esoteric points. I don’t think it matters much, since theoretical skill is acquired through all the issues, not necessarily the central ones.
