Renewal of the Sanhedrin

שו”תCategory: generalRenewal of the Sanhedrin

Hello Rabbi
I wanted to ask if the rabbi is interested in renewing the Sanhedrin in our day?
And if so, how does this fit in with your concept of separating the religious system from the state bodies, since the renewal of the Sanhedrin would obligate the entire people? Or would the Sanhedrin not be considered a “fourth authority” in your opinion?

Absolutely not. I have said and written more than once that if the Sanhedrin were renewed in our time (not like the jokers who did it in the past, but for real) I would go down to Australia. This is because I have no confidence in the people who will probably staff the Sanhedrin (from among the rabbis of our generation). Therefore, I also assume that it will not be renewed, because there are no suitable people, or at least whoever will serve there will not be among those who are suitable. When the time is right and there are suitable people, it is certainly appropriate to renew the Sanhedrin and return our judges as before. In this case, the Sanhedrin will know its place and its role, and will know what to intervene in and what not to intervene in. The question of separating religion from state will not arise, because the entire public will be religious and will accept the system. Without this, there is no place for the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin in such a situation would not be a fourth authority, but would be the legislative authority (perhaps in parallel with a secular legislative authority, according to the model of the Rabbinate on the King’s Trial).
