Returning a lost item in a supermarket cart

שו”תCategory: HalachaReturning a lost item in a supermarket cart
asked 5 years ago

Peace and blessings
Today I shopped at a supermarket that belongs to a large chain, and when I went out with the cart to the street to move the groceries to the car, I saw that the cart bore the logo of another large chain.
Of course, I don’t have time to carry the cart through the streets to return it to its owner.
The question is what should I do, should I return her to where I took her from, or to her first owners, or am I allowed to leave her on the street at all?

In principle, there is a charge for returning lost/stolen items. If you can’t return it to its owner, it’s a good idea to call them and update them on the situation.

It's possible that the cart was bought from the other chain's surplus. There's no need to rush to declare them robbers.

Unlikely. Chains will put their logos on such carts. But no one announced them. It should be announced that this is the case and we combined them.
