Revised Halacha ruling
If a person comes to the halachic conclusion that it is permissible to use electricity on Shabbat, do you think that because he thinks so, then it is permissible for him? I ask because I happened to meet someone like that, who explained to me at length why in his opinion there is no problem with electricity on Shabbat, and that he is bound first and foremost to his own reason, etc.
Are you asking whether he is bound by the rulings of certain rabbis or others? Absolutely not. There is no rabbi who has formal authority. Custom does have weight, and even on the halakhic level, it is advisable for him to investigate and examine arguments that arise before he formulates a position (assuming he is a barrister, otherwise it is just confusion).
