robbery

שו”תrobbery
asked 1 year ago

I stole something not long ago by mistake, and indeed, thank God, I lost the same amount of money that I stole, but I don’t know what to do about how to appease the person I stole from. He’s a Gentile, and it was online, and I have no connection to him.

He who has stolen and I do not know from whom he stole, will give to the needs of many (Homo Si’ Shasu and others). Although usually it is a question of many of whom the stolen is a part, and then the assumption is that the return will indirectly benefit him as well, but here it is apparently not possible to do so.

So is there anything we can do or just pray?

I don't know what the point of praying for forgiveness is. One must make repentance (forsaking sin, repenting, accepting the future, and confessing verbally), and in my opinion, also give this amount to the needs of many.
