Secularists in Halacha
Hello Rabbi Michi.
With your permission, I would be grateful if you could answer two questions:
1. Is it permissible to invite a secular person to Shabbat that I know will drive to my place? Should I offer him to sleep at my place and thereby reduce the chances that he will violate Shabbat? (If the term even applies to him).
2. If a secular friend was staying with me or I was staying with him and he served food that was prepared on Shabbat, am I allowed to eat from it?
3. Regarding your article about secularists in Halacha – how do I know that a certain person does not recognize at all his obligation to observe Halacha? (You wrote in your article, as I recall, that if he recognizes even a little of his obligation to observe Halacha but disagrees with part of it, then the concepts of prohibition, punishment, etc. do apply to him).
Thanks in advance!

- I think it’s permissible, but it’s worth offering him to stay with you (even if you know for sure he won’t accept). After you offer it, it’s his decision. Regarding reducing the chances of him desecrating Shabbat, I understand that you saw my article.
- No. Desecration of the Sabbath that was done for you is forbidden. See Shulchan Ar-Rasih Shaach. Although it is necessary to discuss whether it is considered rape and not accidental, perhaps they did not forbid it. But it is difficult here to permit based solely on an explanation. - If you don’t know, ask. And if you don’t ask and you’re in doubt, you should be stricter. But if it’s obvious (because you know him and the society in which he grew up and/or lives) then there’s no reason to settle.
