Shaking the Chanukah Menorah on Shabbat

שו”תCategory: HalachaShaking the Chanukah Menorah on Shabbat

Peace to Qatar
We have a custom where each member of the household lights their own Chanukah menorah with a blessing. My wife will be on duty at the hospital from Friday noon until Saturday noon. In order for her to be able to light the Chanukah menorah at the hospital, will she be allowed to bring it home in her bag at the end of her duty – in the middle of Shabbat?
Thank you very much.

Hello to Katar too. 🙂 Why would it be permissible? Because of a great loss? Is the menorah expensive? Either you light a simple menorah or you take it from the hospital the next day (if there is no fear of theft). In any case, it is clear that it is better not to light it at all (which is at most against your custom) than to take it on Shabbat (which is completely forbidden).

Thank you.
Explanation to make it easier was by virtue of “all who go out to save return with their weapons to their place” (O”H si’ Shecht sei’ 9).

It is in the tools of the flesh that are necessary for salvation.
