skepticism

peace,
I wanted to ask the Rabbi, why do you think your memory is true? Isn’t it more likely that memory always deceives us??It is much more likely that our memory is incorrect than correct – most systems create broken tools. And the chance that the correct memory is retained is low.
So why does the Rabbi assume that our memory is indeed correct and reliable?

First, the fact that most systems create broken tools is only if the creation process is random. To the same extent, do not believe in the laws of nature because in most cases such special laws will not be created. Similarly, one can also ask why you believe your own eyes. See the fourth notebook on this site about this.

You claim there that it is not possible to be coherent in holding the ethical view and also hold faith in our sensory system.
I understand what you claim that I should indeed assume that it is random when I have no additional information. But not here (which I believe in their correctness).

But, why should I believe in the memory system (and the sense) at all? As if you know if it is not fake or lying, etc.
As if where these basic assumptions are based, it will never be possible to prove them

So is there no truth in the world at all?!

I did not see a reference there to this issue.

You raise the skeptical question and I have nothing to say about it. If you are a skeptic, then you are a skeptic. I don't talk to skeptics because I have nothing to do with them. But none of this has anything to do with memory, because as I wrote, it is true for vision, for morality, for all our senses, for thinking, and for anything you want.

Indeed.
You have no argument for unsceptical belief?
Doesn't that seem really strange to you?

מיכי Staff replied 7 years ago

Absolutely not. It's just like I don't have an argument for logic. Simply because there is no such thing as an argument for logic or an argument against skepticism. Well, we've exhausted it.

Rabbi
What's the point of answering me? There is no reason to assume that he remembers asking the questions, and there is no reason to assume that he really asked and that it's not just imagination, and that's the way it is.

indeed

If there is no real answer then why does the Rabbi assume otherwise?
This seems like a completely arbitrary assumption…

I will explain one last time because it is impossible to repeat such simple things over and over again.
A premise by its very definition is something that has no explanation. It is impossible to bring reasoning to it and base it on something outside of it, and therefore it is a premise. If we could base it, then the new basis would be our assumptions, and again it had no basis. Therefore, asking for justification or a basis for assumptions is a lack of understanding.
However, there are those who are mistaken and think that this is why assumptions are arbitrary. In their opinion, everything that cannot be grounded is arbitrary. But this is nonsense of course, because every foundation is based on assumptions, and if they themselves are arbitrary, then everything based on them cannot be better than them. Therefore, this too is arbitrary. In fact, everything is arbitrary, and this is the basis of skepticism. There is no answer to this and no answer should be given. In other words, the assumption that only things that have a foundation are not arbitrary is itself unfounded, so why should I accept it?!
On the other hand, in my non-skeptical view, assumptions do not need to be grounded. Their correctness is the result of observation of reality (see truth and unsteadiness). And if you ask who said that this observation is true and not misleading, I will not answer for exactly the same reason. There is no possibility and no need to answer this.
After all, if you are a skeptic – be a skeptic and to your health. But those who are not skeptical are not bothered by these questions and should not be bothered by them. Therefore, there is no point in discussing all this.
