Smoking soft drugs
Hello Rabbi,
I wanted to ask if smoking soft drugs like hashish/marijuana is permissible from a halachic perspective?
I don’t see a prohibition here. Of course, if it’s harmful, then perhaps we can find a clause to prohibit it (don’t defile yourself and love yourself as yourself, etc. :)), but I don’t see a reason to avoid it just because of the halakhah when there are no other considerations.
Hello Rabbi, I wanted to know if there is no issue of escaping from selfhood when I smoke soft drugs because it is something that causes you to disconnect from who you are and essentially turns you into a different person.
I am against smoking drugs, what I said is that the halakha has nothing to add to it. I don't know what escape from selfhood means. Smoking drugs is harmful and addictive and costs a lot of money and takes away concentration and focus. It has many disadvantages, and therefore is not worth it. And yet the halakhic prohibition is distilled from an explicit source (from the Torah or a commandment or a decree). There is also no need for it, because if it is not worth it then it is not worth it, both if there is and if there is not such a halakha.
