Solving Weakness of Will

I heard lessons from the rabbi, and in the process he spoke about weakness of will, and said that the solution he proposed “I have been thinking about it for years, and I am not sure about it, and I do not know if it answers the problem.” The rabbi did not explain. Can you please explain why it does not answer the problem? On the surface, the model the rabbi proposed answers it well.
